What to Consider When Printing Posters

If you are unsure where to print your next set of posters, you will be interested to know how many options you have. There is a "best" option for any kind of poster you need to print. Where you do poster printing will depend on the purpose of your posters and the quantity of posters you need. Before you choose a printer, consider the following. 

The printing machine in your office, laser or inkjet, will work fine for a master copy as long as it has 1200 dpi or higher resolution. But once you have a master copy, you will want to find a copier or printing press when needing 50 or more copies. 

The copy place down the street or your very own office copier can do the job on up to 11"x17" poster printing. Especially for black and white smaller jobs with a quantity of less than 250. A copier prints by adhering toner to paper, and the result is usually adequate for flyers and simple posters.

For a more professional and complex poster printing job, consider a printing press. The quality from a printing press is better than a copier and the price is comparable when you have a large quantity to print. For 250 or more copies, a printer will be able to offer a great price, and it gets lower per piece the higher the 

1.    If you want poster printing with black and white or 1-2 colors, you would choose a commercial 1-2 color sheet-fed printer. These work well for one or two colors because they use solid colored ink printed on paper with a plate made from your artwork.

2.    For poster printing with a wider color range, you need a commercial 4 color sheet-fed printer. If your poster contains photographic images, then the 4 color process works best. The printer combines the four colors cyan, magenta, yellow, and black to recreate the closest possible colors in the large range of colors.

3.    For specialty jobs, find a theme printer. Theme printers have worked with such a wide range of abnormal print jobs that they know how to do them quickly and economically. These printers will do a better job than a large commercial printer.

Although both copiers and printing presses have the ability to produce quality jobs for the right purpose, choose your printer carefully. Consider all of the options for poster printing and choose which one will get you the best quality for your poster printing requirements.
